Woodward Ave./South Blvd Construction UPDATE

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has begun construction at the intersection of Woodward Ave. and South Boulevard. The purpose of the redesign is to improve safety at the intersection and improve traffic flow.

UPDDATE 6/20/2023

The paving contractor is currently planning to pave the first 2 courses of HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) on June 22 & 23. Once these  2 courses are paved and a few other items are completed (some necessary permanent signs, possible temporary pavement markings, etc.), the SB Woodward closure will be opened to traffic. This should include opening the driveway from Woodward to the M1 Concourse. Upon this opening to traffic, the contractor will likely keep traffic in a single lane along SB Woodward from south of Rapid to south of South Blvd, as they still have work to complete behind the curb and need room to work safely.

UPDDATE 6/30/2023

The southbound Woodward  Avenue closure at South Boulevard has been opened to traffic. This should include opening the driveway from Woodward to the M1 Concourse. Upon this opening to traffic, the contractor will likely keep traffic in a single lane along SB Woodward from south of Rapid to south of South Blvd, as they still have work to complete behind the curb and need room to work safely.

All traffic must utilize the Woodward crossovers to make a “Michigan Left” turn. There are no longer direct left turns at the Woodward Ave./South Blvd. intersection.
