About Mayor

Tim Greimel has a proven track record of fighting for Pontiac residents and families. Prior to becoming Mayor, he effectively represented Pontiac in the Michigan legislature (2012-2018). During four of those years, he was the Democratic Leader of the Michigan House of Representatives.

As a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners (2007-2012), Tim worked to diversify our economy by attracting new businesses to Pontiac and led efforts to provide health insurance for our most vulnerable citizens. He established an innovative micro-loan program to help small businesses start up and grow. And when the economic downturn hit, Tim successfully worked with members of both parties to balance the county budget without raising taxes.

As a State Representative and the House Democratic Leader, Tim worked across party lines to establish Healthy Michigan, providing affordable access to health insurance to over 650,000 Michiganders. In a Republican-led legislature, he passed two laws to raise Michigan’s minimum wage and index it to inflation.

Tim firmly believes economic opportunities for citizens and businesses are key to building a strong community and re-establishing our city as a regional destination. Among many accomplishments during his first year in office, he overhauled the Department of Public Works and Community Development Department; re-established the Department of Parks and Recreation (which had not existed in over a decade); exponentially increased youth recreation and enrichment programs; and re-ignited the city’s engagement efforts to receive grants for various initiatives. In fact, since Tim took office, Pontiac has secured more than $9.9 million in grant funding.

Tim holds a B.A. in economics and political science, a Masters degree in public policy, and a law degree, all from the University of Michigan. Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Tim practiced civil rights law, representing employees who experienced discrimination and acts of retaliation in the workplace. Tim was elected Mayor of Pontiac in November 2021 and looks forward to continuing to do the work of making Pontiac a place where its citizens and businesses thrive.
