The City of Pontiac has $1,245,354 available in Community Development Block Grant funds. However, there have been 11 applications recieved totalling $2,615,354.
From now until March 4th, the Federal Programs Division will be accepting public comments as how to best use our CDBG funds. Please review the below document for a summary of the 11 applications and how to comment. You may call 248-758-3780 if you have any questions.

Oakland County began its public H1N1 vaccination clinics on Saturday, October 24th. Check the Oakland County Site for times and locations for future clinics.
DPW Engineering has unveiled its Three Year Road Improvement Plan (RIP). It is a map of Pontiac that highlights roadways that will be undergoing improvements over the next three years. It includes projects by both the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the City of Pontiac.
In an effort to reduce the budget deficit, The Emergency Financial Manager has announced that the City of Pontiac will begin instituting "Furlough Days." Click here for the full press release.
On selected Fridays, many city services will be unavailable as City Hall will be closed including: Executive Office, City Council, Finance, Treasury, Human Resources, Retirement, Information Technology, Block Grant, Assessors, Law, Growth Group, and Downtown Development Authority. Services at the Wesson St. facilities will be closed including: DPW Engineering, Sign Shop, Electrical Shop, Equipment Maintenance, Building & Safety, and Planning. Other closed services include: Parks & Recreation, Water Department, Parking Administration. Please click the "Calendar" tab at the top of this page to see which dates will be furlough days.
Open, but with limited staffing will be : Cemeteries, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Fire Inspectors & Administration, Police Administration
Operations that will continue on Furlough Days will be: Police, Fire & EMS Services, Library, Senior Centers, Golf Course, Parking Enforcement, Certain Code Enforcement and Televan
As the weather gets colder, more residents are using outdoor fireplaces and fire pits as a way to extend the outdoor party and barbecue season. Please be sure that you are following the City of Pontiac "Outdoor Fireplace or Fire Pit" policy.

Can Not Be on a Deck, in Front Yards or Side Yards
Warning Regarding Clay Chimineas: Be sure to follow manufacturer's recommendations by "curing" the chiminea with several small fires before burning a larger fire. They have been known to explode when not cured properly.
The Citizen's Summary of the City's 2008 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) is now available online. The 15-day public comment period will began on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 and
will continue until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
Beginning October 3rd, there will be a two-week period when westbound M-59 will be closed entirely from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Woodward Avenue for intersection improvements at Paddock Street. Westbound M-59 traffic will be detoured to the Opdyke Road off ramp. Traffic
will head south on Opdyke Road to west on Auburn Road to north on Woodward

In order to rid the City of Pontiac of dangerous abandoned homes, it has begun an agressive campaign to demolish those buildings.
The new "Demolitions" page provides videos and slide shows of the buildings as they were being torn down. It also includes a list of those homes that have been torn down.

On Monday, March 30, 2009, a Community Forum was held with the state-appointed Emergency Financial Manager.

The City Council has opened a 30-day public comment period on applications for the Community Development Block Grant Program. The city is reviewing 17 applications requesting a total of $2,776,013 in CDBG funding

The City of Pontiac has received an allocation of $3.5 million from HUD to assist in the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed homes through the Neighborhood Stabilization Plan (NSP).

The Division of Community Development (Building & Safety and Planning) has relocated their offices from the Library Basement to the DPW Building located at 55 Wesson Street (the corner of SB Woodward and Wesson St.) in Downtown Pontiac.

Recently discovered aerial photos of downtown Pontiac from 1957 by Community Development can be viewed on the Historic District Commission's webpage. The Clinton River was still winding its way downtown. The County Courthouse still stands at the southwest corner of Saginaw and Huron. View the theater district. See the one-year-old city hall and the police station under construction.

of the Rouge River.
The City of Pontiac provides free weekly recycling drop off service to residents. Recyclables can be brought to the City Hall parking lot on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. The recycling drop off service located at the Collier Road Landfill is available Monday - Friday during normal business hours.
