City Hall will be closed Monday, September 6th in honor of the Labor Day holiday. City Hall will re-open on Tuesday, September 7th at 8:00 a.m.
City of Pontiac/Veolia garbage collection services will be delayed one day during the week of 9-6-09 in observance of the Monday holiday. Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday, and so forth, with Friday’s routes being collected on Saturday.
There was a special City Council meeting on Wednesday, August 18th at 4:00 p.m. in the council chambers to discuss the city's current financial situation and the FY2010-2011 budget.

The "Rise of the Phoenix" initiative is a cooperative effort of the Downtown Development Authority and downtown building owners.
The plan is to provide free rent for a year to qualifying businesses. In exchange, the city hopes to increase foot traffic downtown and encourage future investment in the city.

Every year, beaches are closed due to increased levels of E. Coli bacteria.
There are many causes for this increase, some of which can be controlled by individual behavior and responsible home ownership.
The North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy, and North Oakland Wild Ones will be sponsoring a phragmite control demonstration workshop on Saturday, August 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Deer Lake Beach between Dixie Highway and Depot Road in Clarkston, Michigan. Phragmites are an invasive species of plants that can take over a large area of lakes, rivers and wetlands.
Participants will learn how to identify and control small infestations of phragmites.
The presentation is free, however registration is recommended. A $9.00 donation to cover the cost of the starter kits is requested.

On Friday, July 9, 2010 the Michigan Department of Transportation broke ground for a new Transporation Center at 51000 Woodward Avenue near Orchard Lake Road.
The $1.4 Million facility will be a hub for both train and bus service.

In order to increase the number of officers on the road, the hours of public access to the police station have been reduced. A telephone and buzzer is available at the east entrance for emergencies. Non-emergency calls may still be made to 248-338-1004.
Beginning April 14, 2010 Construction will begin on Telegraph Road (US-24) between Square Lake Rd. and Orchard Lake Rd. Construction will continue through Fall 2010.
There was a public hearing on Monday, April 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers
to present the allocations for Fiscal Year 2010 Community Development Block Grant and HOME Program funding.

DPW Engineering has unveiled its Three Year Road Improvement Plan (RIP). It is a map of Pontiac that highlights roadways that will be undergoing improvements over the next three years. It includes projects by both the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the City of Pontiac.
The Citizen's Summary of the City's 2008 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) is now available online. The 15-day public comment period will began on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 and
will continue until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
Beginning October 3rd, there will be a two-week period when westbound M-59 will be closed entirely from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Woodward Avenue for intersection improvements at Paddock Street. Westbound M-59 traffic will be detoured to the Opdyke Road off ramp. Traffic
will head south on Opdyke Road to west on Auburn Road to north on Woodward

In order to rid the City of Pontiac of dangerous abandoned homes, it has begun an agressive campaign to demolish those buildings.
The new "Demolitions" page provides videos and slide shows of the buildings as they were being torn down. It also includes a list of those homes that have been torn down.

The City of Pontiac has received an allocation of $3.5 million from HUD to assist in the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed homes through the Neighborhood Stabilization Plan (NSP).
Subscription Curbside Recyling is now available to Pontiac residents who currently use the curbside garbage collection service.
Cost will be $13.50 every three months, paid in advance. Recycling will be picked up on the regularly scheduled trash pickup day.
Call 888-443-1717 and say that you are a Pontiac/Veolia customer and are requesting paid subscription service for curbside recycling only.
Free weekly recycling drop off service to residents is still available. Recyclables can be brought to the City Hall parking lot on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. The recycling drop off service located at the Collier Road Landfill is available Monday - Friday during normal business hours
