The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) was created as a tool to revitalize abandoned, undeveloped, or under-utilized properties which are not being developed or fully utilized due to environmental contamination.

The powers and duties of the BRA authorize it to acquire and dispose of certain properties and to incur and expand funds to pay or reimburse a public or private person for the cost of eligible activities. State law permists the issuance of bonds and other evidences of indebtedness and permits the use of tax increment financing.

Currently, the TIFA Board of Directors also serves as the BRA Board of Directors. There are nine members that serve three year terms.
