The City of Pontiac is updating its Master Plan and has hired McKenna Associates as their consultant. The City is on a fast track and expects to have the Master Plan completed by June 2008.

In an effort to update the Master Plan a Steering committee has been formed consisting of residents, City staff, Clergy, legislators and business leaders.

The City held four town meetings/visioning sessions in various parts of the City with the assistance of students from Michigan State University under the direction of Professor Mark A. Wyckoff , FAICP, Director, Planning & Zoning Center and Senior Associate Director, Land Policy Institute at MSU. Visioning sessions were held on September 25 and 27; and October 2 and 11, 2007 at UAW Local 653 on Walton Boulevard, Holland Center, Bowens Center and Howard Del Center respectively.

125 residents attended and participated in the visioning sessions. The residents were asked to perform two brainstorming activities- participants were asked to identify what makes them ‘proud’ about their community and what makes them ‘sorry’; where they would like to see their community in 20 years.

Results from these meetings were tabulated under broad categories and translated into visioning statements for the future of the city. These results will be further refined and result in a visioning statement, goals, objectives and recommendation of policies for the City to implement.

Public comments from the public are appreciated and welcome. You may contact the Office of land Use and Strategic Planning at 248-758-2888, 248-758-2820 or email comments to MOberoi@pontiac.mi.us
