DPW - ENGINEERING DIVISION

The Engineering Division provides a wide range of engineering services to the Department of Public Works and Utilities, the Mayor’s Office, Other City Departments, as well as the general public. Below are generalities and specific functions of the division:

  • Administration of Capital Improvement Programs & Resource Management
    o Construction administration and inspection
    o Construction layout
    o CDBG Sidewalk Program
    o Design
  • Preparation/Processing Applications of Federal and/or State Funding
    o Providing technical support for grant applications
    o Apply for funding with MDOT, RCOC, and SEMCOG
    o Cost Analysis/Value Engineering for Capital Projects
    o Estimating
    o Evaluating/Recommending design changes
  • Administrative Support for Specific Programs & Projects
    o Specification writing
    o Preparation of construction documents
    o Consultant selection and consultant management
    o Bid evaluation
    o Request for Proposals
  • Traffic Engineering Services
    o Review Pavement Markings
    o Review/Optimize Signal timings
    o Analyze sign requests
    o Traffic volume information
  • Other Engineering Services
    o Issues relating to drainage
    o Inquiries on Utility locations and sizes
    o Topographic and property survey information
    o Issue public Right-of-Way permits
