The Creative Arts Center of
Pontiac is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Welcome to the Creative Arts Center web pages. The Creative Arts Center is located at 47 Williams Street in Pontiac and is a non-profit organization serving the North Oakland community area with art education programs and exhibitions.
The Center was created through efforts of Dr. Harold Furlong, a World War I hero, holder of the Congressional Medal of Honor, and physician. He believed passionately that children deserved a place in their community where they could see, learn about and experience art.
Since 1965, the Center has served the community in a variety of ways. Ongoing exhibits are presented; classes are held year-round. The Center for Creative Studies has held extension classes here. Center artists and teachers are sent to schools to hold classes, present workshops and performances.
Members help support the Center and receive a 10% discount on classes. The Center may also be rented on an availability basis. Click on the "Become a Member" page to find out more.
Funding for the Creative Arts Center comes from several sources. Current funding for our summer Confetti Camp comes from the Hess Trust and the Target Foundation, and this past summer (2008) in a partnership with "Bound Together," a mentoring program at All Saint's Episocopal Church. In 1999 we received funding for our multi-cultural exhibits and outreach programs in the schools from the Hess Trust, the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the Rotary Club. We also received money from other grants, memberships, donations and special fundraisers. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated. If you enjoyed your visit to the center, we ask that you encourage others to visit us.
Our Mission: "...capturing the spirit of the community through sharing and learning in the arts."
